Gilgit Baltistan is rocky wilderness of 28000 Sq. Miles containing the biggest cluster of majestic mountains anywhere in the world and the biggest glaciers anywhere outside the polar region. The mighty Himalayas come advancing into this region from India, Tibet and Nepal on north of them spread the more localized but still majestic Karakorams, both heading northwest while in between flows the mighty Indus River, along the Indus are many lovely valleys, on the main river and in the path of its tributaries, these include Chilas, Fairy Meadows, Roundu, Bonji and Skardu. Each a world of its own beauty, attracting tourists from all over the world.
The climate of the Gilgit Baltistan is alpine in nature. The winter tends to be cold whereas late summers are very pleasant. The four seasons are distinct in the splendor of their colors.
Planning a Trip
The ideal time to plan a visit to Baltistan is from March onwards. The season lasts until November. It is advisable to plan a minimum one week visit in Baltistan and all the areas surrounding it can enrapture.
Travel by Air
Baltistan is accessible by road as well by air with PIA’s BOEING. The air journey, about 45 minutes from take-off, offers a spectacular aerial view of some of the world’s highest peaks.
Travel by Road

A treeless plateau 40 km south of Satpara Lake. It is a lovely drive through the narrow gorges. The Deosai plateau is the highest, widest and the longest in the world! One can find hundred of unseen and unfamiliar species of wild flowers offering a fabulous scene. Only the lucky tourists will get a chance to watch brown bears and hunting fish in the streams.
Shigar valley is 32Km from Skardu and 45 minutes drive by jeep. It is the gateway to the great mountain peaks of the Karakoram includes the World’s second highest K-2 (8611 meters). The higher one travels the more beautiful and enchanting becomes the scene. The entire valley is rich in walnuts, grapes, peaches, pears, and apricots. The Amburiq mosque built during 14th century A.D. by Syed Mir Ali Hamdani and renovated by AKCSP is also located in Shigar. The old historical Fongkhar Fort of Shigar built approximately 450 years ago has also been renovated by AKCSP.
